The Supervisor, Underwriting Operations, is responsible for providing leadership to the underwriting team and overseeing daily front-line operations. This role responds to agency and claims escalations, maintaining a strong member focused approach while ensuring profitable risk selection.  This job contributes to the business unit’s and AMA’s success by engaging, coaching and mentoring the team and fostering positive work relationships.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Report to Director, Underwriting and Product.
  • Resolve agency complaints and escalations by actively listening to members’ needs and finding innovative, forward-thinking solutions and coverage.
  • Effectively communicate decision-making reasoning to underwriters, advisors and members in an empathetic and professional manner.
  • Understands and applies best business practices towards compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Effectively communicate underwriting practices, information and changes in a timely and accurate manner to all relevant audiences.
  • Recommend and develop training opportunities for underwriters and advisors.
  • Ensure consistency in the application of guidelines across the department within all transactions.
  • Effectively build trust with team members and stakeholders, gaining buy-in to company initiatives.

WHAT YOU’VE DONE

  • You have a post-secondary degree or diploma in business or a related field.
  • You have a minimum of 5 years insurance industry experience, indicating a progressively increased level of responsibility.
  • You hold a CIP or FCIP designation.
  • You have demonstrated leadership ability by motivating and influencing others towards the achievement of common goals and objectives.
  • You exhibit sound knowledge of AMA Insurance products, guidelines and policy wordings.
  • You have knowledge of the insurance industry and market conditions and trends.
  • You are positive, ambitious, highly motivated and goal oriented.
