We are looking for a dynamic, proactive, and decisive professional to champion all things “risk management” at one of Alberta’s most trusted companies. Someone with exceptional leadership skills and an intimate knowledge of business processes and the Insurance industry to set the strategic risk management vision.


As the Director, Risk and Compliance you will be responsible for leading and managing the business unit’s risk management framework and compliance requirements. This is achieved through working collaboratively with various external and internal stakeholders to build awareness, understanding and operationalization of risk management and compliance practices. Moreover, acting as a strategic advisor to internal stakeholders on proactive risk management and compliance activities. A key aspect of this position is to be a role model of our culture and foster an environment where their team has opportunities for career development and individual growth.

  • Report to the Vice President, Finance and Risk
  • As a leader and a role model, embrace and promote the TYLF (Treat You Like Family & Friends) mentality at every level of the organization.
  • Develop and maintain Enterprise Risk Management tools, practices, and policies to analyze, monitor and report enterprise risks per the Enterprise Risk Management Framework
  • Identify and enforce industry specific compliance requirements such as the Insurance Act, Fair Practices Act and Anti Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing
  • Facilitate the development, implementation and maintenance of Enterprise Risk Management Framework, Enterprise Risk Management Policy, Procedures and Guidelines and other key Risk Management initiatives
  • Develop in conjunction with internal and external stakeholders, Procedures and Guidelines (P&G’s) necessary for regulatory and operational compliance
  • Review and monitor of investments and compliance with investment policies
  • Provides leadership, innovation and governance necessary to identify evaluate and monitor strategic and operational risk within the Insurance Services
  • Build key relationships with internal/external auditors to validate and ensure quality of process and controls, i.e., audits of policy and compliance to standards
  • Provide support, education and training to staff to build risk awareness within the organization





  • You have a University degree in a related discipline
  • You hold a related professional designation such as CPA or FCIP
  • You have a Minimum of 10 years of risk management experience with progressive leadership, in a regulated professional services/financial industry. Experience working within the direct writer insurance industry would be an asset.
  • Understanding and application of legislative and regulatory requirements within the context of Insurance Services
  • Strong collaborator in working with various stakeholders to manage risk management and compliance initiatives and provide input on key strategic and operational business initiatives
  • Solid business acumen, organizational assessment and qualitative analytical abilities to evaluate business conditions and translate changes from a risk and compliance perspective
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to present complex information in various ways to a diverse audience
